Specifications: The situation Open manholes in cities and towns are traffic hazards, eye-sores to the citizens and other road users and if it is not properly and timely covered, they become death traps. The conventional material used for manhole covers like cast iron, rcc, red stone and even timber in certain cities have their own limitations under condition of use. Problems with c. I. Covers C. I. Covers are stolen for their higher and instant scrap value, leads to health & environmental hazards, fatal accidents, increase in maintenance & replacement cost. Because of inherent properties and fragile nature, c. I. Covers are weakened easily & break even on light weight. It posseses less wear & tear resistance and lower cracking strength which leads to premature failure under impact load. The solution The problems above can be solved very positively by using fibre reinforced concrete (f. R. C. ) covers & frames. This is a new type of concrete possessing several beneficial properties with regard to strength, serviceability and durability as compared to conventional concrete. Benifits of frc manhole products Economical - long uninterrupted service without problems, low initialcost, long life & almost zero maintenance, proves it more economical in long term. Theft - no possibility of pilferage/theft as the re- sale/scrap value of f. R. C. Products is negligible. Higher strength - posseses very high tensile, compression, impact, wear & tear and punching shear strength. As being chemically treated, posseses highly abrasion and corrosion resistance, improved ductility & can absorb shock loads without causing spalling and crushing of concrete.
