Absinthe Duplais (11/18/2006)
Specifications: Absinthe duplais is distilled by the matter-luginbuhl distillery and has the distinction of being the first 'verte' to be released in switzerland since the lifting of the ban in 2005. Its recipe is based directly on the absinthe 'suisse' protocols from the important 19th century french distiller's manual: "traite des liqueurs et de la distillation des alcools " by p. Duplais - which is where it takes its name. It is naturally colored with aromatic plants after the distillation. We feel this absinthe shows oliver matter's growing talent and initiative (since the vast majority of the swiss today are convinced that absinthe should be clear! ) and have decided to share the opportunity to taste it with our customers. Exactly one year ago, we introduced the absinthe duplais. Since then absinthe duplais has been established as a high quality absinthe internationally. This product is distributed in various european countries. Time for us to upgrade the product anyway! The formula was untouched, because we didn't want to change the general character of the product. However we're now using higher quality (therefore more expensive) herbs. The completely reworked coloring step is the most visible change. After month of tests we are now able to produce a stabile, yet natural coloring. News: Absinthe duplais wins gold at the international wine and spirits competition 2006 and is "best in class" Tasting category: Absinthe - 72% Award: Gold (best in class) Country: Switzerland Alcohol %:72% Judges' tasting notes: Unique, golden/green hue. Slow forming louche had sudden active spurt resulting in thick, almost solid, milk shake finish. Eventual colour was translucent, rich, golden green with amber highlights. The aromas after louche were slow to emerge but built with time into a complex herbal salad. Wormwood and fennel began to establish themselves on the nose with hints of spice lifting above the meld of herbs. Full textured, rich, creamy mouth with outstanding, refreshing taste with substantial fennel and wormwood flavours. Massive power, yet well controlled, long, everlasting finish. Magnificent product. Absinthe Green Angel (04/11/2008)
Green Angel is both: the name of an art-gallery and Absinthe-store in Heidelberg (and forever – as the owners say) with the widest range of Absinthe brands since 2001 as well as the name of this Absinthe with a maximum-content of wormwood. This Absinthe is anise-free and made exclusively for this gallery by the very first distillery legally producing high-level-thujone Absinthe after the ban. Based on an old, but untypical recipe for those days in the 1830s in southern France – Green Angel Absinthe is an all natural hand-made product. Its color is golden, and it has a bitter but fruity taste as opposed to the anise-note. Composed with wormwood and different other plants, high-quality alcohol, water and sugar, and without any artificial adding or coloring, Green Angel Absinthe is both: an aperitif and a digestif. The galerist’s idea for this Absinthe was to offer a real harmonious taste of an anise-free brand for those, who are interested in real Absinthe but not used to the taste of anise. With only as much alcohol as necessary to have the highest wormwood-content possible according to European laws. A friendly introduction to the world of Absinthe. And - experience demonstrates - those, who love the Green Angel Absinthe don’t have any problems with the more classical or typical Absinthe, containing anise, after a certain time. Until the end of summer 2007 Green Angel Absinthe only had been available in this unique absinthe-store in Heidelberg, in different bars in Germany and during different music festivals. Absinthe purists might say adding sugar is not authentic for an Absinthe. The question is: are those brands without a strong bitter taste the more authentic ones? In Belle-Epoque times absinthe-lovers added sugar because of the Absinthe’s very bitter taste … Recommended to drink straight - on ice. Other best-loved drinking variations are: with 3 or 4 parts of orange-juice and crushed ice Or like Ernest Hemingway loved the Absinthe: with 3 or 4 parts of champagne and ice. In certain Absinthe-cocktails the brands containing anise are problematic – Green Angel Absinthe is perfect for any kind of Absinthe-cocktail, Absinthe-longdrink or Absinthe-mixdrink. Green Angel is well-combined: anise-free with a fine Absinthe-effect - but only for those, who love the typical bitter taste of Absinthe - of the Absinthe-plant !
