Absinthe Green Angel (04/11/2008)
Green Angel is both: the name of an art-gallery and Absinthe-store in Heidelberg (and forever – as the owners say) with the widest range of Absinthe brands since 2001 as well as the name of this Absinthe with a maximum-content of wormwood. This Absinthe is anise-free and made exclusively for this gallery by the very first distillery legally producing high-level-thujone Absinthe after the ban. Based on an old, but untypical recipe for those days in the 1830s in southern France – Green Angel Absinthe is an all natural hand-made product. Its color is golden, and it has a bitter but fruity taste as opposed to the anise-note. Composed with wormwood and different other plants, high-quality alcohol, water and sugar, and without any artificial adding or coloring, Green Angel Absinthe is both: an aperitif and a digestif. The galerist’s idea for this Absinthe was to offer a real harmonious taste of an anise-free brand for those, who are interested in real Absinthe but not used to the taste of anise. With only as much alcohol as necessary to have the highest wormwood-content possible according to European laws. A friendly introduction to the world of Absinthe. And - experience demonstrates - those, who love the Green Angel Absinthe don’t have any problems with the more classical or typical Absinthe, containing anise, after a certain time. Until the end of summer 2007 Green Angel Absinthe only had been available in this unique absinthe-store in Heidelberg, in different bars in Germany and during different music festivals. Absinthe purists might say adding sugar is not authentic for an Absinthe. The question is: are those brands without a strong bitter taste the more authentic ones? In Belle-Epoque times absinthe-lovers added sugar because of the Absinthe’s very bitter taste … Recommended to drink straight - on ice. Other best-loved drinking variations are: with 3 or 4 parts of orange-juice and crushed ice Or like Ernest Hemingway loved the Absinthe: with 3 or 4 parts of champagne and ice. In certain Absinthe-cocktails the brands containing anise are problematic – Green Angel Absinthe is perfect for any kind of Absinthe-cocktail, Absinthe-longdrink or Absinthe-mixdrink. Green Angel is well-combined: anise-free with a fine Absinthe-effect - but only for those, who love the typical bitter taste of Absinthe - of the Absinthe-plant !
